PROVIDE RELIEF TO THE CURRENT CRISIS IN HAITI

Dear friends,
I want to share a brief update with you on the Haiti crisis which is impacting the children we serve here at Hope for Haiti’s Children. Sometimes I ask myself, “How can things get any worse?” And then it does.

Heavily-armed gangs now control 80% of the capital – Port-au-Prince. Families in our 3 city Christian schools — Delmas, Cite Soleil, and Cazeau — are sheltering in place as heavily-armed gangs overran Haiti’s two largest prisons and freed 4,500 (forty-five hundred) inmates over this past weekend. These same gangs tried yesterday, unsuccessfully, to seize control of Haiti’s international airport. And now they are threatening to take over the banks.

Just in three days last week alone, around 15,000 people fled gunfire in the capital, many of them now living in makeshift camps in schools, hospitals, and squares.

Meanwhile, we are praying that the UN-sanctioned multinational force from 5 countries — Kenya, the Bahamas, Barbados, Benin, and Chad – will speed up their deployment to support Haiti’s extremely small police force of 9,000. The UN approved the mission last October, but no deployment date has been set.

We are so blessed to work alongside an incredibly courageous, capable, and caring Haiti team. Thankfully, our children at our orphanage are safe and the area has been spared gang violence. This week, our priority is to provide emergency shelter, food, and clean water to sponsored children’s families forced to leave their homes by the gangs. Our Haiti school leaders are in regular communication with our students and their families, and they are in perfect position to provide us with the specific needs that each of these families have.

So how can you help?

First, please pray! Pray for an end to the violence and for law and order to prevail. Pray for the safety of the 3,500 children in our schools and orphanages. Pray for our Haiti staff as they persevere in extremely dangerous conditions. Pray for those displaced from their homes.

Second, please give! Our crisis relief fund is nearly depleted, and requests are pouring in. Your gift of any amount will help and be a blessing.

And Third, sponsor one! When you sponsor a child for $36/month, you are investing in the future of Haiti. Sponsorship provides a child with access to Christian education, food, healthcare, and spiritual training. We are eyewitnesses that our sponsored children are beacons of hope for the future of the country. This year, thanks to a matching grant, your donations for the first 12 months of sponsorship – $432 – will be matched dollar for dollar and donated to improve the school your sponsored child attends.

To all our sponsors and supporters, thank you for your partnership. Your help is vital now more than ever!

Together, we are nurturing hope and creating positive change in Haiti – one child at a time.

Please PRAY & SUPPORT in this time of crisis.
